October 2009: The Adventure Begins

People regularly ask me how I ended up where I am.  Literally.  How did a Midwestern girl with a degree or two (1.75, whatever) in Psychology and Sports Administration end up at Dunder Mifflin (which is obviously code) in South Florida?  There's the short story/easy answer: I was offered a job in athletics in South Florida, moved 2 weeks later, realized I didn't like the field and through a series of connections, ended up here!  While it's not an incorrect explanation, it largely skips over the connections, the jobs and the how and why I was even in the running for the original job, and THAT is where our blog begins...

NEXT: An Explanation on Societal Norms in Your Late 20s/Early 30s

Why do I always have to be "next?"  This weekend I went to/planned/half-threw a baby shower for my non-blood (or marriage) related sister.  I love welcoming new life into the world with cake, diapers full of melted chocolate, bingo games and gifts.  Yet the older I get, the more common it is that everyone else at the party has a child or is pregnant with one.  I am not.  I'm not there yet in my life.  I am absolutely happy about this.  I don't feel prepared for this yet.  I don't want this yet.  Or maybe ever...

Reevaluating Street Walking and Psychological Health

Reevaluation.  n. The act of judging or determining the value or significance of an item.  We all reevaluate things in our lives.  If you don't, you should.  This morning alone I reevaluated the time for which my alarm was set by gracefully pounding the snooze button until it broke.  That's not an exaggeration, by the way... the fucker is stuck in the down position, permanently snoozing my life for 9 minutes at a time.  I'm choosing to not look at that as a metaphor.  While we all reevaluate things throughout our lives, I find that the most common times we do it knowingly is around life events: birthdays, holidays, impending doom nuptials, babies coming into the world, etc.  Often times these intrinsic times make us question what we've done up to this point and what we want to do from here forward.  Depending on what you take out of it, it can cause frustration, sadness, or excitement.  I've done a good amount of reevaluating over the last 2 months (which is my excuse for not writing anything lately, but is complete bullshit) and thought that maybe you would be interested in some of the things I've taken stock of and/or changed.

A Letter to Hot Yoga

Dear Hot Yoga,

I know we've only been interacting for a couple weeks, but in that short time I have grown some pretty strong feelings.  Now I know you don't know me very well, but I rarely have "feelings" so this is already a big deal.  Even bigger is that I am choosing to share these feelings not only with you, but also with my blog and the 5-7 people who regularly read it.  I am counting last weeks post of Date Me Blog as a fluke, but thank you to the approximately 120 people who read it.  I've decided the best way to express my feelings towards you and my experiences with you would be to list some pros and cons.

Top 10 Textversations I've Had on My Phone

Hello reader (or 4, or whatever).  As you may have noticed, the last 8 or so weeks I have gotten away from the original purpose of this blog.  For those of you who didn't notice, I'll safely assume you got to this blog in an attempt to see what happened on The Bachelor on a weekly basis.

Top 10 Things I Need to Do Before Moving to Ft. Lauderdale

10. Dr's appointments - All completed
9. Switch from 5/3 Bank to Bank of America - Complete (it sucks, by the way. I really liked 5/3, but they don't have a branch close enough to where I'll be living or working.
8. Buy Sunpass - Yeah, that's right. Sun Pass. In Illinois we have an Ipass; in Florida, they get a pass to the sun.
7. Buy a "fall coat" - the only coats I own are snow or <30degree coats. I need a fall coat for 35-60 degree weather
6. Fix squealing tire on the new-to-me Hyundai Santa Fe - half complete...it has been brought to the shop...we are waiting to hear back.
5. Get Passport - Geez, it's expensive to get a passport! I got the pictures and filled out the forms, now I just need to go to the office and turn everything in. I am not planning to go anywhere, but just in case I get to travel with the team at all, I don't wanna be left behind.
4. Get haircut - I need to get the next two inches of blonde crap removed from the bottom of my hair and I could use a bang trim before I get on the road.
3. Look into the Purdue Alumni Association in Florida - I'll need to look into making some friends...
2. Set up some going away parties - one in the city and one in the suburbs.
